Job Summary Perform basic routine preventative maintenance throughout the facilities under supervision of Journeyman level Maintenance Technicians or Supervisor.
Assists Journeyman level Technicians in troubleshooting, repair and fabrication of Facility systems and rooms.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
Under direction of Journeyman level Maintenance Technicians or Supervisor:
Perform basic facility and equipment maintenance (e.
g.
, construction, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, painting, vehicle upkeep, floor/wall coating/painting, cage repairs).
May assist with other maintenance/facilities responsibilities, under supervision.
o Lawn care and maintenance o Outdoor cleaning of building and grounds o Outbuilding cleaning and arrangement Incinerator operation Transport items from the loading dock area; keep free of supplies and debris.
Perform scheduled inspections/repairs on assigned facility systems.
Replenish supplies in assigned areas (e.
g.
, water softener salt).
Maintain appropriate maintenance logs and other required paper documentations.
Participate in snow removal and ice remediation activities such as shoveling and spreading deicing agents on walkways and parking lots, where site weather conditions necessitate.
Assist in moving equipment and office furniture within the facility or between sites.
Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Operate and maintain department equipment (e.
g.
, forklift, skid loader w/attachments, side by side UTV) The hourly rate for this role is $18/hour Job Qualifications
Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma, General Education Degree (G.
E.
D.
) or equivalent desired.
Experience:
None required Certification/Licensure:
Valid driver's license required.
Other:
Must be able to understand and follow verbal directions.
Must be able to operate assigned maintenance power tools and equipment.
Must enter the formal training portion of the apprenticeship and maintain satisfactory GPA.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to handle tools and maintenance equipment.
Frequent reaching, bending, pulling and crouching is required.
Frequently lifts bags weighing up to 40 pounds.
Frequently climbs ladders, kneels and/or lies on concrete flooring.
Frequent reaching, bending, pulling and crouching is required in the repair of cages that weigh approximately 400 pounds (on casters).
Walks or stands for up to 90% of the workday.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly wears steel-toed boots and protective laboratory clothing (goggles, lab coats, and gloves).
Occasionally works in high, precarious places.
Occasionally works in tight or confined spaces.
Occasionally works in outside weather conditions.
Frequently work near moving mechanical parts.
Occasionally is exposed to vibration.
The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
COMMENTS:
Weekend and holiday work required.
Occasional domestic travel required.
Must attend formal apprenticeship training program off-site.
